Take a look at the sentence again:

If Eli cooked and ate the half head of raw cabbage [the only item in the refrigerator], he knew that he would burp through his date with Amy, so he drived to the food store and bought a box of macaroni and cheese to fix instead.

The second verb, drived, is the problem. The sentence requires the simple past. Drove is the correctly spelled form.

Verb Simple Present Simple Past Past Participle
drive drive(s) drove driven

Bought, the verb you chose, is perfectly correct. Before you continue, review the rules for irregular verbs.
