Fixing Comma Splices and Fused Sentences

Directions: In the exercise that follows, you will read sentences that contain either a comma splice or a fused sentence. The problem will be highlighted in red. Your task is to choose the correct way to fix the problem.

To keep track of your answers, print the accompanying handout. You might also want to review the rules for fixing comma splices and fused sentences.

Because comma splices and fused sentences are major sentence errors, knowing how to correct these two problems will make you a more successful writer.
